Tenda routers are everywhere in Kenya because they're cheap and they hold up well. Most of what you'd want to change lives behind a login screen that people never open. Getting in takes about a minute.
Read this first if you're an iNet customer
The default Tenda username and password are both "admin". On a router we installed, that won't work. We change it during installation so nobody outside your home can reach your router settings, and we don't hand the new password out by default. Call support on 0730 966 666 and we'll sort you out. It's not us being difficult; an open router admin page is one of the easier ways to get a home network hijacked.
Step 1: Connect to the WiFi
Your laptop or phone has to be on the router's own network before it can reach the settings page. Being on mobile data won't do. The network name is printed on the sticker on the back of the router, along with the password, unless someone has changed them.
Step 2: Open a browser and go to 192.168.0.1
Type it straight into the address bar, not into Google. If nothing loads, try 192.168.1.1 instead. Different Tenda models use one or the other.
Step 3: Sign in
On a router straight out of the box, the username and password are both "admin". If that's rejected, it's been changed, which is what you want. Ask whoever set it up, or call your provider.
Step 4: You're in
From here you can rename the network, change the WiFi password, and see what's connected. Have a look around before you change anything. If something goes wrong, every Tenda router has a recessed reset button on the back that puts it back to factory settings when you hold it for about ten seconds.
