The six options that actually work in Mombasa
Mombasa is the one coast city where the national brands compete street by street. Three fiber networks (Safaricom, Zuku and Faiba) reach different estates, two wireless products (Poa and Airtel's 5G router) fill the gaps, and Starlink works anywhere with open sky. Which one you can actually get depends on your building, so check each provider's map for your exact address.

The bottom line
Choose Zuku or Safaricom if their fiber is already on your street. Both start at KES 2,999 for 40 Mbps with free installation. Zuku is sold as uncapped; Safaricom publishes fair-usage caps and a 1:4 shared-capacity ratio, so evening speeds can fall well below the plan. Safaricom's KES 800 and KES 1,500 budget tiers are the cheapest fiber in the city where they exist.
Choose Faiba if you want a dedicated line and your building is on their footprint. Prices start around KES 3,000 for 35 Mbps and climb to 1 Gbps. Confirm the installation fee before you order, because it is not published.
Choose Poa if you are in one of their estates and want the lowest monthly bill: 20 Mbps unlimited for KES 1,500, or KES 450 a week when money is tight, installed free within 48 hours. It is a shared wireless network, so speeds move with how busy it is.
Choose Airtel's 5G router if no cable reaches you and you want to start today: KES 1,999 for 15 Mbps or KES 2,999 for 30 Mbps, router free, KES 1,000 to connect. The 1,000 GB monthly allowance drops you to 2 Mbps when it runs out, which heavy streamers will notice.
Choose Starlink if you are outside everyone's coverage. It costs the most to set up and there is no technician to call.
Choose iNet if you are in Mazeras, Rabai, Diani, Ukunda or up the north coast in Kilifi, Watamu or Malindi: unlimited fiber from KES 2,500, KES 5,000 to get connected with the first month included, and local technicians every day. Which internet provider is cheapest in Mombasa?
For unlimited fiber, Zuku's Shujaa (40 Mbps) and Safaricom's Bronze (40 Mbps) both start at KES 2,999 a month with free installation. Safaricom's budget tiers go lower where they exist: Wi-Fi Bamba is KES 800 for 10 Mbps in select estates and Fibre Lite is KES 1,500 for 15 Mbps, both on shared capacity with fair-usage caps. The lowest headline price in the city is Poa's 20 Mbps wireless plan at KES 1,500 a month (or KES 450 a week), in the estates their network covers. Does iNet Africa cover Mombasa?
Not Mombasa Island, Nyali or Bamburi yet. iNet's own fiber reaches Mazeras and Rabai on the Mombasa–Nairobi road to the west, and Diani and Ukunda on the south coast, plus Kilifi, Watamu and Malindi up the north coast. If you are in one of those areas you can get unlimited fiber from KES 2,500 a month. Which estates in Mombasa does Zuku cover?
Zuku's own coverage page (checked 12 September 2026) lists Bamburi, Bombolulu, Kiembeni, Mikindani, Miritini, Mkomani, Mogadishu, Nyali, Utange and VOK as live, with Tudor coming soon. Along the north coast it also lists Kilifi town and Mtwapa. Malindi, Watamu, Diani and Ukunda are not on the list.
Does Faiba work in Mombasa?
JTL says Faiba's fiber footprint is expanding across Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu and Eldoret, and service is estate by estate. Its Home Plus tiers run from 35 Mbps to 1 Gbps, sold as a dedicated line. Ask JTL to confirm your building before you buy equipment, and note that Faiba does not print its installation fee on the packages page.
How much does WiFi installation cost in Mombasa?
Zuku and Safaricom advertise free installation and a free router or modem on their published fiber plans. Poa installs free within 48 hours. Airtel gives you the 5G router free and charges a KES 1,000 connection fee. Starlink has no installation fee but you buy the kit: the Mini kit is KES 27,000 and the Standard kit KES 49,900 at Kenyan resellers, with instalment and rental offers. Fiber, 5G router or satellite: which should I pick in Mombasa?
Fiber if any of Zuku, Safaricom or Faiba reaches your building: it is the only option where the speed you pay for is a wire, not a shared radio. A 5G router (Airtel) or an estate wireless network (Poa) is the fallback when no cable reaches you, and both are cheaper to start; watch the fair-usage allowance on Airtel and the shared speeds on any wireless product. Starlink is for places nothing else reaches, and it costs the most to set up.
