How much does WiFi installation cost in Kenya? (2026)
Between nothing and KES 5,000 for fiber or a 5G router, and KES 27,000 to 49,900 for satellite. Every figure below comes from the provider's own published prices, verified 12 September 2026, with what “free installation” actually includes.
The short answer
Fiber (Safaricom, Zuku)
Free installation and a free router or modem on the published plans. You pay from the first month, from KES 2,999 for 40 Mbps.
Estate wireless (Poa, Mawingu)
Poa installs free within 48 hours. Mawingu installs free and takes a refundable deposit.
5G router (Airtel)
Router free, KES 1,000 connection fee, set it up yourself. Plans from KES 1,999 for 15 Mbps with a 1,000 GB monthly allowance.
Satellite (Starlink)
No installation fee, but the kit costs KES 27,000 (Mini) or KES 49,900 (Standard) before the monthly plan.

What you are actually paying for
A fiber installation is a technician's visit: a drop cable from the nearest pole or distribution box to your house, a small termination box on the wall, the router connected and configured, and the line activated and speed-tested. The cable, the box and the router are the real costs, which is why every provider either charges a one-off fee or folds it into the monthly price.
A fixed wireless installation mounts a small antenna on your roof, aims it at the nearest tower and runs a cable to an indoor router. It is how providers reach places the fiber has not got to yet.
A 5G router or a satellite kit is self-install: you plug it in where the signal is best. There is no technician and nobody to call when the spot you chose is wrong.
Five things to ask before you pay
- 1. Is the router mine? A free router that stays the provider's property comes back to you as a rental line or a return charge when you leave. iNet has no router rental.
- 2. Is there a deposit or a minimum term? Mawingu takes a refundable deposit with its free installation. Ask any provider how long you are tied in and what it costs to leave early.
- 3. What does the first month cost? Free installation plus a first month is not the same as a KES 5,000 that includes the month. Add the two numbers before you compare.
- 4. Is the plan unlimited, and shared? A cheap installation on a plan with a fair-usage cap or a 1:4 shared line costs you in evening speed instead. Safaricom publishes its caps and contention ratio; read them for the tier you pick.
- 5. What are the extras? A TV add-on decoder (Zuku charges a one-off KES 5,000), a relocation fee if you move house, or a longer cable run for a big compound. Ask before the technician arrives, not after.

Is WiFi installation free in Kenya?
Often, yes, but the cost does not disappear. A free installation is paid for through the monthly plan, and sometimes through a minimum contract term, a deposit or a router you do not own. Before you accept a free installation, ask three questions: is the router mine or rented, is there a deposit or a minimum term, and what is the monthly price once any promotion ends.
How much is iNet Africa's installation?

How much does Starlink cost to set up in Kenya?
There is no installation fee because you install it yourself, but the kit is the cost: about KES 27,000 for the Starlink Mini and KES 49,900 for the Standard kit at Kenyan resellers as of September 2026, before the monthly plan of roughly KES 4,000 (Residential Lite) or KES 6,500 (Residential). Some resellers offer instalments or rental.
Can I install WiFi myself?
A 5G router or a Starlink kit, yes: both are plug-in products. Fiber, no: a technician has to run the cable from the street to your wall, fit the termination box and activate the line. Fixed wireless also needs a technician to mount and aim the rooftop antenna.
What happens on installation day?
For fiber, the technician runs a drop cable from the nearest pole or distribution box to your house, fixes a small termination box on the wall, connects and configures the router, then activates the line and runs a speed test with you. Have your ID ready for the application if you have not completed it online, and choose a spot for the router with a power socket that is central to the house.
